Tropic Lightning Diving Team  Skills Trampoline Skills Competencies Checklists and Tips

 

Starts with Basic Jumps, followed by Basic Drops and Beginning Ropes Skills -- look over all the Skill Descriptions, and read through all the Mature Performance Indicators.  Ask a friend or a relative to help you practice them so you know all the terminology and can do the positions and skills to the best of your ability...These three Checklists will comprise the major part of the tests you will have as the final task of the Diver of the Month program for February!

Basic Jumps Competencies

Straight Bounces, Arms Down
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms hanging straight at sides
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs are straight and toes pointed as body rises into the air
e.  Bodyline remains vertical and hollow
f.  Arms stay down throughout the bounces
g.  Feet approximately shoulder width apart upon landing, together in air
h.  Each landing stays in same place on trampoline
i.  Ends with a kill bounce
Straight Bounces, Arms Overhead
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight overhead
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs are straight and toes pointed as body rises into the air
e.  Bodyline remains vertical and hollow
f.  Arms remain overhead with minimal softening throughout the bounces
g.  Feet approximately shoulder width apart upon landing, together in air
h.  Each landing stays in same place on trampoline
i.  Ends with a kill bounce
Straight Bounces, Arms Flap
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight overhead
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Arms drop during squat, accelerate laterally overhead upon jump
e.  Legs are straight and toes pointed as body rises into the air
f.  Bodyline remains vertical and hollow
g.  Arms hold overhead until descent begins, then drop to sides
h.  Arms continue "flapping" throughout the bounces
i.  Feet approximately shoulder width apart upon landing, together in air
j.  Each landing stays in same place on trampoline
k.  Ends with a kill bounce
Straight Bounces, Arms Circle
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight overhead
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Arms inlocate at shoulders and prepare for circling action
d.  Squat and armcircle begins, body maintains hollow position
e.  Arms finish circle during squat, and are overhead upon jump
f.  Legs are straight and toes pointed as body rises into the air
f.  Bodyline remains vertical and hollow
g.  Arms hold overhead until descent begins, then begins next circle
h.  Arms continue holding and circling throughout the bounces
i.  Feet approximately shoulder width apart upon landing, together in air
j.  Each landing stays in same place on trampoline
k.  Ends with a kill bounce

Seat Drop
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight over the head
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs are straight and toes pointed as they lift to horizontal
e.  Torso remains perpendicular to trampoline as the body drops/lands
f.  Hands touch trampoline palms down, and push against trampoline
upon landing
g.  Muscles remain firm during contact with trampoline
h.  Legs bend minimally when rebounding to the vertical line position
i.  Arms return to straight overhead position while preparing to land
on feet
Knee Drop
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight over the head
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs bend only at knees, toes stay pointed as lower legs lift back
and parallel to trampoline
e.  Arms drop to sides as body drops to tramp bed
f.  Body line remains straight from head to knees during drop
g.  Muscles remain firm during contact with trampoline
h.  Knees snap back to straight and arms return overhead on rebound
i.  Starting position is re-assumed after rebound
Table Drop
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight over the head
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs bend only at knees, toes stay pointed as lower legs lift back
and parallel to trampoline
e.  Arms and torso drop in front to the table position during flight
f.  Body remains in table position during drop to trampoline
g.  Hands and lower legs all contact trampoline at same time
g.  Muscles remain firm during contact with trampoline
h.  Hands/knees push into trampoline to effect rebound and return to
standing position
i.  Starting position is re-assumed after rebound
Stomach Drop
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight over the head
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Hips rise while torso drops forward and legs move upward and backward
e.  Arms move to the sides and forward to a "flat triangle" position
f.  Legs bend at knees slightly so that heels are elevated above bodyline
g.  Torso remains hollow
h.  Body remains in above-described position during drop to trampoline
i.  Arms, torso, and upper legs all contact tramp bed at the same time
j.  Muscles remain firm during contact with trampoline
h.  Hands/knees push into trampoline to effect rebound and return to
standing position
i.  Starting position is re-assumed after rebound
Back Drop
a.  Starting position is standing, with arms straight over the head
b.  Initial movement is an ankle prime
c.  Squat and extension are strong and body maintains hollow position
d.  Legs held in position of diver's choice and toes pointed as they lift
beyond horizontal and initiate backward rotation
e.  Torso remains hollow and allows the leg/hip action cause the rotation
f.  Back contacts trampoline first, with head and legs elevated
g.  Muscles remain firm during contact with trampoline
h.  Legs thrust down and forward while shoulders thrust up and forward
to initate rotation back toward standing position
i.  Starting position is re-assumed after rebound

Puts on Belt with Towel for Padding
a.  Folds towel to fit torso appropriately
b.  Wraps towel around torso bewteen waist and shoulders
c. Either asks for help to cinch belt on tight enough to hold the towel in place or
performs the tightening without assistance
Attaches Belt to Ropes
a.  Opens clips by pulling the triangular hinged part outward
b.  Slips clips around the belt rings
Jumps and Holds Hollow Tight Body Position When Suspended in Air
a.  When held up in the air, diver does not grab ropes, move the legs in a running
fashion, or squirm -- diver strikes a hollow pose and remains in it
Inverted Holding Position
a.  When in the belts and upside down, diver will maintain a hollow position
(like the entry of a line-up) for a count of three before relaxing the position
b.  This will be performed for a forward "dive" action and a back "dive" action
Half-Wrap
a.  When asked to do an action with a press, diver will manipulate the ropes
so they are behind the shoulders and are held in place by holding the arms
narrow and overhead
Press While In Ropes
a.  Diver will perform the pressing action such that the arms circle and free
themselves from the ropes
b.  This will be done in a jump, a forward spinning action, and a back spinning action
Full Wrap
a.  When asked to do an action with a full lift and press, diver will manipulate the
ropes so they are wrapped around the shoulders from behind, then over the 
shoulders, then under the armpits and held in place by the placement of the arms.
b.  Ropes should be high on the shoulders/upper arms, NOT down near the elbows
c.  This will be done in a jump, a forward spinning action, and a back spinning action
Full Lift and Press While In Ropes
a.  Diver will perform the full lift and press action such that the arms circle and free
themselves from the ropes
b.  This will be done in a jump, a forward spinning action, and a back spinning action
